Loyola University Chicago President Mark C. Reed, EdD began a four-year term on the NCAA Division I Board of Directors, effective October 1. This appointment representing the Atlantic 10 Conference on the board of the NCAA’s most competitive division follows six years of service as chair of the A-10 Presidents’ Council including one year as Loyola’s president and five years as president of Saint Joseph’s University. He will serve on the Finance Committee which has fiscal responsibilities including final approval and oversight of NCAA budgetary matters.
Dr. Reed brings to the NCAA DI Board two decades of experience overseeing intercollegiate athletics at three Division I universities. “I am honored to join the board in service to the NCAA and student-athletes, and I am grateful to my fellow presidents in the A-10 for their confidence in selecting me to represent the conference,” Reed said.
Following multiple NCAA men’s basketball tournament appearances in recent years, including a Final Four and Sweet Sixteen appearance, and sustained success across its athletics program, Loyola accepted an invitation in 2022 to join the Atlantic 10 and further elevate its national profile in athletics. The A-10 has a long history of success and commitment to excellence in athletics and academics, with a presence in three of the four largest media markets in the country (New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia) in addition to Washington, D.C., Richmond, St. Louis, Ohio, and North Carolina.
Loyola is a national leader in student-athlete academic success. In the 2022–2023 academic year, Loyola’s student-athletes posted an average 3.54 GPA, with all 15 programs having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Graduation Success Rates for Rambler athletes have been among the top five of all Division 1 institutions for nine consecutive years, often in the #1 spot nationwide.
