Loyola Gives

Loyola Gives is the annual Loyola University Chicago holiday giving program. In partnership with the Catholic Charities Sponsor-A-Family program, Loyola Gives supports families in need by purchasing much needed items for the holiday season.

Participating departments, offices or groups will designate a contact person, decide how much money they can contribute and will receive the “wish list” of a local family in need. Please plan to spend about $100 per person (groups that can contribute $400 will receive a family of 4 or $200 will receive a family of 2). The department will shop for the family and drop off all gifts on the collection day on each campus:

Health Sciences Campus: Tuesday, December 1

Lake Shore Campus: Thursday, December 3

Participating departments must sign-up for a drop-off time. We will adhere to all social distancing guidelines and health and safety policies.

Thank you in advance for your support of this program!

Coordinators will sign-up their office or area as usual! At the end of October, coordinators will get an email with further information including the family information sheet. At the beginning of November, coordinators will receive packing supplies (either in campus mail or USPS to their home) for labeling and bagging gifts. Drop-off days will be at HSC on Tuesday, December 1, WTC on Wednesday December 2 (if needed) and LSC on Thursday, December 3. Drop-off procedures will vary based on campus and coordinators will sign-up for a specific time slot to ensure there is no crowding. More information to come!

Consider online shopping OR purchase gift cards!

We are planning on sending the supplies for packing gifts through either campus mail or USPS to the coordinator’s home. Someone will have to bring the gifts on drop-off day (logistics are forthcoming) and all Covid-19 safety precautions will be enforced. Drop-off procedures will vary based on campus and coordinators will sign-up for a specific time slot to ensure there is no crowding. More information to come!

Option 1: The coordinator collects the money and does the shopping on behalf of the entire office. The coordinator will receive all information, including packing supplies in the mail (either campus mail or the USPS to their home), and is responsible for dropping everything off on drop-off day. Depending on how many gifts there are, the coordinator will need a car and (perhaps) some extra help.

Option 2: Divide up the wish list and have different people shop for different items. Prior to the drop-off day, bring everything to the coordinator’s home so they can bag it and get it ready for drop-off day. Depending on how many gifts there are, the coordinator will need a car and (perhaps) some extra help.

Great! Catholic Charities suggests gift cards to Wal-Mart or Target!

This is a longstanding relationship with Catholic Charities and Loyola is one of the biggest donors and partners. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, some of the other major donors and contributors are not able to participate this year. We hope that those who can give as they are able this year! As an added bonus it is a great thing to do together as a department while we are away from one another!
