Copyright Statement

At Loyola University Chicago we believe that the open expression of ideas and a free flow of information are critical to our teaching and research missions as a university. As a Jesuit institution of higher education, we accept as a special duty the call to respect the creative works and intellectual property of our students, faculty, and staff, and to imbue in them the same duty, especially with respect to authorial integrity, ownership and distribution rights.

Many individuals within the University community have worked hard to make our institutional Web pages a valuable and reliable source of information. (Our institutional Web pages are those maintained by the various entities within Loyola University Chicago; e.g., our colleges and schools, institutes, departments, and other units formally associated with our University.) We want these contributors to receive the credit and acknowledgment that they deserve.

At the same time, we do not wish to discourage an exchange of information to facilitate learning, teaching, and scholarly research in an academic environment.

If you wish to link to information on our institutional Web pages in support of your academic mission please contact webmaster@luc.edu by electronic mail (or written communication to Webmaster, Loyola University Chicago, Crown Center 109, 6525 N. Sheridan Road, Chicago, IL  60626) and identify the specific material you wish to link.

We expect that you will acknowledge Loyola University Chicago as the source of any information accessed in this way, and that neither the link nor the information accessed through this link will be used for purposes of advertising or profit-making without prior and explicit written permission from Loyola University Chicago.  All other rights regarding our institutional Web pages are reserved.

The Nature of Information on the Internet

Concerns have arisen about the nature of information that is accessible through the Internet. For example, some readers may find online information—whether on a website, a blog, a listserv, a chat room, or a discussion board—that they deem to be offensive or objectionable, and may question whether such information is appropriate to the missions of education and research.

In this regard, Loyola University Chicago advises all members of the University community that there may be information available through the Internet that some may find to be offensive or objectionable, and that the University does not regulate the availability of such information nor does it sanction its content.

Some concerns have also focused on the accuracy of information available through the Internet in books, electronic journals, or newsletters.

In this regard, Loyola University Chicago advises all members of the University community that it cannot warrant the accuracy of any information that is accessed through the Internet.

Given that the Internet is comprised of cooperating but independent networks that are not governed by any single institution, there is no central authority to monitor the content of information that is accessed through the Internet.

For its part, Loyola University Chicago will try to ensure that the information about the University provided on its institutional Web sites and other campus-wide information systems is accurate, timely, and useful. In the interest of providing easy access to the resources of the Internet, however, the Loyola institutional Web pages also provide links to other Web pages, sites and menus that are not administered by the University. The University, therefore, cannot vouch for the content or integrity of information available at these sites. Further, information and resources available on or through the Loyola University Chicago institutional Web pages may change as Internet resources are added, withdrawn, or altered, and as the University responds to the exigencies of user requests and demonstrated patterns of interest.
