LOYOLA GIVES - the annual Loyola University Chicago Holiday Giving Program.

Loyola Gives joins our university community with Catholic Charities of the
Archdiocese of Chicago's Sponsor-A-Family program to spread holiday cheer throughout Chicago.
Loyola groups sponsor families in need by raising funds and purchasing items requested by the families.
The Loyola community has always given generously.
Over the past few years, 151 Loyola departments, schools, and student groups have supported over 363 families!

What will we accomplish together in 2012? 

How LOYOLA GIVES Works

• Loyola's Department of Sacramental Life receives family profiles from Catholic Charities.
  Many of these families have recently overcome homelessness, substance abuse, and unemployment. Others are recovering from illness or other financially debilitating circumstances.
  
  
• Loyola departments and groups select a coordinator and contact Cathy O'Sullivan to sponsor a family or families.
  We suggest that groups plan on spending around $100 per family member. Loyola Gives planning staff then provides information about the families, including the ages, gender and gift ideas for family members as well as background information regarding the family’s current situation. The sponsoring group purchases gifts and may even provide non-perishable food and decorations. Because some individuals would like to participate but might come from a small department or group, there is also a stuffed animal collection.
  
  
• Sponsoring departments and groups drop-off the families’ gifts on designated days.
  Catholic Charities picks-up the gifts and ensures that the families receive them at the holidays.

LOYOLA GIVES Coordinators

 Every department or group participating in Loyola Gives will assign a coordinator to facilitate the program. The coordinator will:

1. Inform your department or group about Loyola Gives.

2. Spread the news and promote the opportunity to give.

3. Attend the Coordinator Information & Training Session:

4. Keep your group on target with purchasing and gathering gifts. (see schedule below).

5. Ensure that presents are properly bagged and delivered to the designated location on the scheduled day and time.

LOYOLA GIVES Schedule

Month of October
Generate enthusiasm and participation for Loyola Gives with posters, emails, or stories from previous years.
Have a list of participants prepared by November 8.

Late October
Contact Cathy O'Sullivan with the name and contact information of your coordinator and your request for families.

Thursday, November 8
Coordinators attend the Coordinator Information & Training Session and family profiles distributed.
Organize your department and start shopping!

December 5 & 6
Deliver gifts to designated drop-off locations at WTC or LSC.

WTC: Wednesday, December 5, 2012, Terry Center Lobby from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m
LSC: Thursday, December 6, 2012, Bremner Lounge from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
