of tax professors in the recent
download category. He is the
author of the leading comparative
business tax casebook and has
published tax articles in numerous
top law journals.
Tax talk
Samuel Brunson
launched a new
tax blog,
Surlysubgroup.com,
to generate conversation
about tax law, policy, and their
intersection with various other
topics. Brunson focuses his research
on the ways federal income
tax affects discrete groups of
taxpayers, with special focuses
on investors and families.
Holding senators
responsible
Barry Sullivan, Cooney and
Conway Chair in Advocacy,
was
among the top constitutional
law professors to sign a letter to
the president and U.S. Senate
leadership urging them to fulfill
their constitutional duties with
regard to the current Supreme
Court vacancy.
Expert in law, science, and
technology joins faculty
Jordan Paradise,
whose research
and scholarship interests focus on
the intersection of law, science, and
technology, has joined the School of Law’s
full-time faculty. Recent research projects
cover nanotechnology, synthetic biology,
biosimilars, precision medicine, and gene
editing. Paradise will teach Property Law,
Life Sciences/FDA Law, and Administrative
Law and Health Care Regulation. She
received her BS from the University of
Michigan in Ann Arbor, and her JD from
Chicago-Kent College of Law with a
certificate in Intellectual Property Law.

has been appointed to
the Raymond and Mary Simon Chair in
Constitutional Law.
Barry Sullivan
has been elected a
member of the Council of the American
Bar Association Section of Civil Rights
and Social Justice.
Spencer Waller
has been appointed
associate dean of academic affairs for the
School of Law.
AnitaWeinberg (JD ’86)
has been
appointed by Governor Bruce Rauner to
the Illinois Department of Children and
Family Services Advisory Council.
James Gathii
has been elected to a
three-year term as counselor to the
American Society of International Law.
Larry Singer
has been appointed to
the Board of Directors for the American
Society of Law, Medicine, & Ethics.
Diane Geraghty
was appointed
codirector of Loyola’s Center for Criminal
Justice, Research, Policy, and Practice.
Nadia Sawicki
was appointed to the
American Bar Association’s Special
Committee on Bioethics and the Law.
Michael Kaufman has been
appointed interim dean of
the School of Law.
