Why is Commencement 2021 being held virtually?

Despite our hope and desire to hold an in-person Commencement, the Restore Illinois plan for reopening the state and guidance from the City of Chicago makes it clear that it is highly unlikely that we will be able to congregate at large events in one location by early May. To comply with local and state guidelines, and to maintain the safety of Loyola students, their families, friends, faculty, and staff, 2021 Commencement week will be held virtually between Monday, May 10 – Saturday, May 15, 2021.

How do I register for Commencement?

Registration for Commencement will open in January. We look forward to sharing more details soon.

Is regalia required for virtual Commencement?

Regalia will not be required for participation in Commencement.

How do I order my cap and gown?

Regalia orders will open in January. We look forward to sharing more details soon.

Can I get a refund for the graduation fee if I choose not to participate in Commencement?

The one-time graduation fee assessed to students covers the cost of the diploma and cover, mailing fees, and other expenses associated with graduation. All graduates must pay the fee, regardless of participation in the ceremony. Your fees will ensure that you receive your diploma and will support the Commencement ceremonies.

Will there be an in-person Commencement celebration?

Yes! We are holding a virtual Commencement Week Monday, May 10 – Saturday May 15, 2021. We are planning to hold an in-person celebration for both the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 when conditions allow. We will share more details as they become available.
