Connected Mathematics PD - UIC

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is offering a one-day overview of Connected Mathematics (CMP) on Friday, August 5, 2011. This professional development session will provide support for new teachers implementing CMP in their sixth, seventh or eighth grade classrooms.
GOALS
The CMP professional development is designed to provide newly implementing teachers with the opportunity to:
- Develop an understanding of the philosophy and goals of the CMP curriculum
- Explore the connections between CMP and the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
- Collaborate with colleagues in similar grade levels
- Deepen their content and pedagogical content knowledge
DESCRIPTION
During the sessions, teachers will learn about the curricular materials and resources, engage in problem-based investigations, prepare for implementation in their classrooms, and explore high-quality instruction. They will engage in activities to promote reflection and professional growth. Sessions will focus on the following grade level units:
6th grade - Prime Time
7th grade - Variables and Patterns
8th grade - Thinking with Mathematical Models
LOCATION and TIME
The sessions will be held at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Education, Performing Arts and Social Work Building at 1040 West Harrison Street from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
Parking is available in Lot 9 at 501 South Morgan Street. (Parking validation will be provided.)
REGISTRATION and COST
The cost for the workshop is $100 per person. All sessions are limited to 35 participants. Lunch will be provided. A minimum of 15 participants is needed for each session or the session will be canceled. In the event of a cancellation, you will receive a full refund. CPDUs will be awarded upon completion.
