High School Positive Behavior and Support (HSPBS)

This project explores the unique aspects of implementing Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) in an urban high school. The diverse school, located in the third largest district in the United States, has been implementing primary, as well as components of secondary and tertiary interventions over three years.

As indicators of both treatment outcome and fidelity of implementation  the following data is collected throughout  each year

  • Outcome quantitative data (School wide Evaluation Tool (SET))
  • Effective Behavior Support Survey (EBS)
  • Office discipline referral data (ODR)
  • Qualitative data (interview data, field notes and observations)

Currently, the focus of the project is on issues affecting sustainability including:

  • Empowering staff through leadership training and opportunities
  • Developing and monitoring action plans with the use of data
  • Increasing staff buy-in
  • Providing purposeful training with feedback to staff on teaching, acknowledging, and redirection
  • Building administrative commitment and involvement
