Adam schubel

STEP Program Coordinator

Following his childhood in New Zebedee, Michigan, Adam Schubel discovered Zen Buddhism.  After electing not to join the monastery, he entered the University of Michigan, where he studied religion, field biology, and music composition and wrote the piece "Death Don't Eat No Sandwich."

Adam earned a degree in General Studies, and shortly thereafter married the rock musician and ornithologist Stephanie Cabala.  They moved into a home in rural northern Michigan built by the farmer and meditation master Paul Bantle, where Adam wrote the Northern Michigan Environmental Resources Director and served as a groundwater educator for the Michigan Department of Agriculture.

Adam has also served as a lecturer at the University of Michigan Biological Station for numerous courses in botany and ecology.  There he developed an increasing interest in science education.

In response to this interest, he enrolled in Antioch University New England, where he obtained an MS in environmental studies and high school biology teacher certification.

Adam now teaches Sustainable Agriculture at CUERP.
