LUCES

Foundation & Values

The LUCES Program is built upon the foundation of Ma’at. Ma’at is at once the Kemetic (Ancient Egyptian) goddess of truth and order as well as a systemized spiritual and cultural concept that is necessary in maintaining a strong community. The ideal implies the seven principles which guide the Program: truth, justice, righteousness, reciprocity, balance, harmony and order. Using these principles, we begin an ongoing journey of increasing awareness and making conscious choices towards a more successful existence for ourselves and our communities. Program members consistently ask themselves and each other to strive towards righteousness, to serve in the best interest of the common good, and to continue holding responsibility for our society’s health.

This Ma’atian ideal is similar to the concepts of dharma (Hinduism, Buddhism) and hozho (Navajo, Pueblo American Indian).
