Ongoing STARS Initiatives

A group of STARS Mentors & Mentees at STARSearch

Discover Chicago Series – Now that our First Year students “discovered Loyola,” STARS Mentees can hit the town to discover some of Chicago’s historical and cultural landmarks. Events are coordinated by the STARS Mentors to coincide with the Department’s Heritage/Awareness Months. Through this initiative, mentees can explore the city’s diverse neighborhoods such as Pilsen, the South Side, Boystown, and Chinatown.

STARS Scholarship – The STARS Program aims to continue its legacy of developing rising campus leaders by offering the STARS Scholarship. Helping offset tuition costs while promoting service excellence, this financial scholarship provides fifteen successful First Year STARS students with an opportunity to contribute to the campus and local communities through High School outreach initiatives supported by Loyola Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Successful completion of scholarship requirements culminates with a co-curricular transcript, a portfolio that outlines the scholarship recipient’s campus and community involvement supported by the STARS Program. Students interested in learning more about the STARS Scholarship should contact Jason Chan at jchan3@luc.edu.

SuperSTARS Mentoring – Since the First Year experience is not the only challenging time during a Loyola student's college career, it is essential that we support all of our students in their unique challenges. Understanding that our STARS mentors are not immune to challenges themselves, the SuperSTARS component to the STARS program provides each peer mentor with their own faculty/staff mentor. These SuperSTAR mentors meet with their STARS peer mentor on a consistent basis throughout the year to provide support and advice. Faculty and staff who are interested in becoming a SuperSTARS mentor should contact Jason Chan at jchan3@luc.edu
