Requirements

To earn a JD Certificate in Tax Law, you must complete five required courses with an average grade of B or better.

Required Courses

  • Second Year Fall Term: Federal Income Tax
  • Second Year Spring Term: Corporate and Partnership Tax
  • Third Year Fall Term: Advanced Corporate Tax
  • Third Year Fall Term: Estate and Gift Tax
  • Third Year Spring Term: Tax Controversy Practice & Procedure

Optional Elective Courses

You may wish to increase your knowledge and skill set by taking additional tax courses:

  • Employee Benefits Law
  • Estate Planning
  • Federal Tax Clinic
  • International Tax
  • State and Local Tax

Applying for your Certificate

At the beginning of your third year, you must complete an application for the Certificate in Tax Law. Submit your completed application to an approved tax law faculty member for signature. You must then submit your signed application form to the Law School Registrar's Office.
