PSYC 392. Internship in Applied Psychology
Students enrolled in PSYC 392 work in an applied setting where they have the opportunity to address a need or problem using knowledge and skills learned in previous psychology courses. Students work in a variety of settings including hospitals, social welfare agencies, legal firms, zoos, teen centers, community centers, human resources and personnel offices, and marketing companies.
A formal, written project is required at the end of the semester which describes the nature of the applied experience. Students receive supervision both from the Psychology Department internship coordinator and from a designated person at the site. Prerequisites
Prerequisites for PSYC 392 are:
- PSYC 304. Statistics
- PSYC 306. Research Methods
PSYC 381 (Advanced Statistical Analysis with Computers) is recommended but not necessary. Senior psychology majors may take PSYC 392 only with permission of the internship coordinator. Students must apply for acceptance into PSYC 392 and obtain recommendations from two Psychology Department faculty members.
Student Responsibilities
PSYC 392 students are expected to work during the semester at an approved site for a minimum of 100 hours. The internship coordinator will help students with selection of site placement prior to enrolling in PSYC 392. As representatives of the Loyola community, students are expected to perform in a manner that brings credit to their institution. Interested students should discuss the 392 internship experience with the Psychology Department internship coordinator the semester before enrolling in PSYC 392.
