Mary Pat Haley is a professor emerita in Journalism, where she teaches courses in reporting & writing, and is an active member of the School of Communication’s dean’s team.
Dr. Haley earned a Ph.D. in Radio, TV, and Film at the School of
Speech at Northwestern University. Evanston, Ill. She also has an MA in American Literature from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, and a BA in English from Clarke College, Dubuque, Iowa. She is a member of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (BVMs)
Dr. Haley was the co-producer to A College of Their Own: A History of Higher Education for Women in the United States, which focused on Mundelein College, the last women's college in Illinois that merged with Loyola University in 1991. She also created a recruitment video for Mundelein College and received the Silver Trumpet Award from the Publicity Club of Chicago.
During her tenure at both Mundelein College and Loyola University she has taken administrative roles. Among her duties have been those of an academic dean and vice president of At the Ring of Kerry academic affairs at Mundelein College. At Loyola, she served
as acting chair of the Department of Communication, and assistant dean for the Humanities.
Dr. Haley spent the spring semester 2007 on a sabbatical at the Catholic University of Louvain (Leuven) near Brussels, Belgium. As well as auditing courses in the Department of Theology, she was able to travel extensively in northern Europe visiting such places as Bruges, Antwerp, Ghent, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Normandy, Budapest and Prague. She also spent two weeks in Ireland.
