Minor in Women's StudieS AND GENDER STUDIES

A minor in the Women's Studies and Gender Studies Program consists of five courses (or 15 hours). The one required course is either WSGS 101: Introduction to Women's and Gender Studies or WSGS 201: Contemporary Issues in Women's Studies and Gender Studies, which carries core credit in the department of the course instructor. The other four courses are electives from courses crosslisted with the WSGS program.

To declare a minor in Women's Studies and Gender Studies, students need to fill out a declaration of minor form (PDF) and a student information sheet. Both can be obtained from the Women's Studies and Gender Studies office in Cuneo Hall 310. The declaration form must be signed by the program director and returned to the Dean's office in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Major in Women's Studies and GENDER STUDIES

A student can declare a major in WSGS after she or he has completed the requirements for the minor.  It is now standalone, and you may major in WSGS without a second major. The major consists of seven additional courses beyond the minor, for a toal of 12 courses (36 credit hours), including WSGS 399, the required capstone course, taken in the student's senior year. Of the five elective courses for the major, four must be at the level of major courses in other disciplines. The twelve courses for the major must cover at least four disciplines.
