June 13 – October 18, 2009

This exhibition presented a detail from famed artist-reporter Franklin McMahon's celebrated collection of Vatican II and Chicagoland paintings and drawings. Created on-site in Rome, the Vatican works stir the soul to historical memory. In tandem with the hope and honesty of Pope John XXIII and

“out of obedience to an inspiration,” these works report significant moments of the Second Vatican Council and beyond. McMahon continues his technique of reportorial drawing with intimate portraits of Chicago parish life, including people, churches, significant ecumenical movements, and meetings.
