ITRS Pathways Banner

ITRS Pathways provide flexible opportunities for learning throughout the year. An ongoing schedule of live, interactive sessions is available. You can complete a traditional Pathway at your own pace by attending four individual 45-minute sessions or accelerate your Pathway by attending a single 3-hour session. Both options lead to a digital badge issued through Credly, providing many ways to share your badge to popular destinations such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and X. Sakai Assessment Badge

Accelerated Sakai Assessment Tools

This interactive professional development series provides you with workflows, tips, and effective practices for assessment that will support every stage of learning. We will explore Assignments, Tests & Quizzes, Rubrics, and Gradebook to help create and develop substantive assessments. Please note, this is a single 3-hour session with a 15-minute break at the halfway mark. At the conclusion, you will have met all the requirements to earn a Sakai Assessment Tools digital badge. This is the quickest way to build your credentials library!

Assignments: The Assignments tool allows you to create, distribute, collect, and grade online assignments. Learn how to add, edit, and grade an assignment, as well as how to enable student peer review and group submissions.

Tests & Quizzes: The Tests & Quizzes tool allows you to create online assessments, including exams, quizzes, and surveys. Learn how to decide between assessment types, how to create different types of questions, and how to customize your assessment settings to support learner needs.

Rubrics: The Rubrics tool allows you to compose and apply criteria for grading in rubrics associated with different learning activities in Sakai, as well as share feedback with students. In addition, find out how to collaborate and share rubrics with other instructors in Sakai.

Gradebook: The Gradebook tool allows you to set up grading for a course securely shared with your students. Learn how to set up a Gradebook to reflect your course grading schema and values, calculate final grades, and how to enter grades and feedback for students to view. In addition, see how to associate different Sakai learning activities with the Gradebook.

Sakai Integrated Badge

Sakai Integrated Tools Series 

This interactive professional development series provides you with tips and effective practices for using external tools integrated with Sakai. We will explore Zoom, Panopto, VoiceThread, and some lesser-known tools to supplement course content and activities, as well as enhance student engagement.

Session 1: Zoom 

This session focuses on Zoom Pro as an integrated tool within your Sakai Site. Topics include scheduling meetings, sharing recordings, and Zoom security features. It meets one of the four requirements to earn a Sakai Integrated Tools digital badge. (45 minutes)

Session 2: Panopto 

This session focuses on Panopto as an integrated tool within your Sakai site. Topics include recording, editing, and sharing Panopto videos, as well as evaluating student engagement and work submitted within Panopto. (45 minutes)

Session 3: VoiceThread 
This session focuses on VoiceThread as an integrated tool within your Sakai site. VoiceThread is used for presenting narrated slideshow lectures, narrated student presentations, and rich multimedia discussions. Topics include creating a VoiceThread, using the VoiceThread assignment builder, and options for sharing threads with colleagues and students. (45 minutes)

Session 4: Plug and Play

This session focuses on on-demand, self-directed learning tools available in Loyola's catalog of instructional technologies. Tools such as Labster and Infobase Learning Cloud provide extensive libraries of topic-based learning for use in courses, as supplemental lessons, or for your own professional development. Topics include an overview of Labster and Infobase Learning Cloud, locating relevant content, and adding content to your Sakai site. (45 minutes)

Sakai Communication Tools Series

This interactive professional development series provides you with tips and effective practices for facilitating communication in online and technology-enhanced courses. We will explore the Announcements, Email, Messages, Chat, Discussions, and Conversations tools to help devise a comprehensive student communication strategy. Although this is a sequential series, individual sessions can be attended without committing to the entire schedule. 

March/April 2024 | Topics & Registration

Announcements and Calendar: This session is to introduce users to the Announcements and Calendar tools. This session will teach users how to properly use the Announcement tools to communicate with the entire class or select groups in a timely manner. It will also go over how to effectively use the Calendar tool to help the user organize their coursework over the semester. (45 minutes)

Email, Chat, and Messages: This session is designed for new Sakai users and those looking to revise their student communication strategies. This session will describe the differences between the Email, Email Archive, and Messages tools, and will include practice using Email, Email Archive, Messages, and Chat. Prior to engaging in this session, participants should be comfortable with basic Sakai navigation (e.g., logging in, accessing course and project sites, and using the Tool Menu). (45 minutes)

Discussions: The Discussions tool allows you to facilitate asynchronous discussion in your Sakai course. Learn how to create forums and topics, customize the different settings in forums/topics, grade student contributions, and strategies for using Discussions to promote collaborative learning. Conversations: The newly released Conversations tool facilitates conversation with short-answer questions or longer discussions, along with tagging conversations. This session will overview how to use the features of Conversations, as well as provide opportunities to design activities for Conversations. (45 minutes)
