 Health Sciences Instructional Innovation

Health Sciences Instructional Innovation (HSII) reflects the diverse scope of instructional design, creative content development, and academic research fueled by technology-based learning. As a member of the Stritch School of Medicine, Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, and the Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health, you are invited to request and discuss collaborative projects and services within these areas.

Collaboration

Consultation. To get started with an HSII project, please schedule an initial intake consultation to determine project goals, needs, and deliverables.

Walk-In Support. Support for educational technologies, course building, and instructional design is available in SSOM 180 on Wednesdays from 11am-2pm and Thursdays from 9am-12pm. Hours are subject to change based on staff availability.

Project Request Form. To submit a request for an HSII project, login to the ITS self-service portal and complete the project request form. Instructions to submit an HSII project request are available in the following video.

Training. Join available professional development opportunities to stay connected with new technology updates for your teaching applications by visiting ITRS Pathways and our current webinar series. Both offerings provide tracks to earning digital badges.

Technology

Many teaching and learning technologies and academic research applications are available to support your needs. This includes Sakai, Loyola’s learning management system, and core external tools for communication and student-facing learning, such as Panopto, VoiceThread, and Zoom. Additionally, an expanded portfolio of academic research technologies includes SPSS Statistics and Modeler, Minitab, SYSTAT, STATA, SAS, NVivo, and Qualtrics. Innovation

Course building and instructional design collaboration help you to develop measurable learning objectives, assessment and evaluation strategies, learner-centered activities, and engaging course content to meet educational standards and your personal instructional goals.

A quality review ensures your course is digitally accessible and includes measurable learning objectives that successfully map to assessments and learner-centered content and activities. You will collaborate with a certified Quality Matters (QM) expert.

Multimedia services include graphic design and video editing to ensure your educational content is informative, interactive, and engaging.

Learning analytics assists with accessing your course data and identifying trends in student engagement with content and activities. This learner data may be used to modify your course and potentially lead to improved student outcomes.

Extended reality (XR) encompasses the use of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). Learn how you can harness and highlight technology-based innovation by deploying XR in your courses and learner training contexts.
