Minor in Women's StudieS AND GENDER STUDIES
A minor in the Women's Studies and Gender Studies Program consists of five courses (or 15 hours). The one required course is WOST 201: Issues in Feminism, which carries core credit in the department of the course instructor. The other four courses are electives from courses crosslisted with the WOST program.
To declare a minor in Women's Studies and Gender Studies, students need to fill out a declaration of minor form (PDF) and a student information sheet. Both can be obtained from the Women's Studies and Gender Studies office in Piper Hall 202. The declaration form must be signed by the program director and returned to the Dean's office in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Major in Women's Studies and GENDER STUDIES
Students majoring in WOST must have declared a first major in another department or school within the University. The second major consists of five additional courses beyond the minor, for a total of 10 courses (or 30 hours). For the required capstone course (to be taken in the senior year), WOST majors can select from either WOST 401: History of Feminist Thought: 1790-1970, or WOST 402: Intellectual and Institutional Foundations of Women's Studies. Of the eight elective courses for the major, four must be at the level of major courses in other disciplines. The 10 courses for the major must cover at least four disciplines.
