The Loyola Experience

“I get to constantly explore”

Scott Thomas, Marketing and Finance

Scott Thomas grew up on a family farm in Somonauk, Illinois, about an hour west of Chicago.

When he arrived on campus at Loyola, Thomas jumped into exploring all of the restaurants, neighborhoods, and cultures of the city, which included taking full advantage of the Lake Shore Trail for running, biking, and roller blading. His sophomore year, he took his love of exploring across the pond and spent a semester immersing himself in the city of Barcelona, Spain.

From learning about ethical business practices at the Quinlan School of Business to celebrating Loyola's Final Four run, Thomas finds himself prepared for his next step after graduation, taking a lot of memories with him.

‘I had a graduating class of 60 people, but I knew there was more out there.’
It’s hard to find a marketing program in Somonauk, Illinois. The town’s not that big. Chicago is big, but the community within Loyola was a big helping factor, just how open a lot of people are, not only students, but the faculty, and everyone.”

Bottom line

Building a better business and world:

Scott
I came to Chicago because I wanted to see all these different cultures, and studying abroad is the exact same thing. I wanted to experience as much as possible.”
The first game, I was here at the Schreiber Center on the steps. It was awesome to see because, yes, it’s a Loyola thing, and then it became Chicago’s thing, and then it became a national thing. It was a fun ride.”

March Madness

A fan's perspective on Loyola's Final Four run:

I’m more open to new things. If I would have been closed-minded in this place, always gone to the same place to eat, and always did the same thing, I wouldn’t be able to experience the cultures and the people of this city, or other people in my class, or anything.”
