Externships
Building on-the-job experience
Externships are a key factor in providing students with hands-on
skills and experience in advance of graduation. Under the leadership
of Director Josie Gough, and with the welcome participation of
members of the bench and bar who supervise externs in the field
and participate as guest speakers in the externship seminar course,
the number of students receiving professional practice-based legal
training in field placements has more than doubled in the past several
years. The seminar course has been recently redesigned to emphasize
professionalism and practical skills. A few of the many outstanding

Internationally recognized child law expert Geraghty was a presenter at the Inaugural Myanmar National Workshop on
Clinical Legal Education in Yangon, sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme. She also participated
as a faculty member in a clinical legal education training in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Sharpening oral advocacy skills
As evidence of the strong support from faculty, administration, and alumni,
Loyola law students continue to boast a winning record in a wide variety of
regional, national, and international advocacy competitions. Here are some
of Loyola’s most recent advocacy awards and honors.
