Extending the Beazley Institute for Health
Law and Policy’s tradition of breaking new
ground, Loyola continues to offer the only
online LLM in health law degree in the
nation for attorneys who wish to develop
or enhance an interest in health law. Built
on a traditional MJ program that dates
from 1986, Loyola’s online MJ program
gives individuals in the health care field a
working knowledge of the legal, business,
and policy forces affecting the industry.
The institute’s online program expanded
during the 2012–13 year and has now
awarded a total of 198 MJ degrees and
31 LLM degrees.

MJ in business and
corporate governance
Loyola’s MJ degree in business and
corporate governance is a two-year,
part-time program focused on business
law, and laws that relate to corporate
governance and corporate compliance.
First offered conventionally at the School
of Law in the early 1990s, the program
was launched in its new online format
in 2012. The curriculum is designed for
business professionals seeking to enhance
their analytical and writing skills, as well as
increase their knowledge of the impact of
the legal system on business transactions.

MJ in children’s
law and policy
Launched in 2011, Loyola’s online MJ
degree in children’s law and policy
graduated its first class of students in May.
The program provides students with tools
necessary to improve the lives of children
through informed policy and advocacy.
Members of the MJ teaching faculty bring
to the classroom an expertise in law and
policy issues in education, child protection,
juvenile justice, custody, mental health, and
international children’s rights. In addition
to online courses, the program last year
offered an education immersion workshop
weekend, “A Short Course: Policy and
Legislative Advocacy to Make the Change
You Want to See.”

FACULTY EXCELLENCE
Many of today’s talented law students have full-time jobs, making it impossible to attend law school during
conventional hours—and other prospective Loyola students live far from Chicago. Loyola’s unique partnership with
Concord Law School, a pioneer of online legal education, now makes it possible for professionals throughout the US
and around the globe to pursue a graduate degree from Loyola’s School of Law: a master of jurisprudence (MJ) degree
for non-lawyers or a master of laws (LLM) degree for individuals holding JDs.
