Stritch Golfer's Association (SGA)
Golf is a unique sport in that it allows for lifelong participation with everlasting room for improvement. As a result, many working professionals, including physicians, play and utilize golf for networking. One common issue with the sport is its perception as intimidating for beginners. By creating a student organization that allows space for introduction to the sport and opportunities to play, we hope to expand the reach of golf as a recreational outlet and as a networking tool for medical students here at Stritch. It also fosters time for activity outside of the classroom to decompress from the stresses involved in the healthcare profession. By facilitating learning opportunities for golfers of all levels, we hope to create a culture of mentorship and enjoyment. Our events will primarily utilize instruction and entertainment as a means for accomplishing these goals. These include but are not limited to: driving range lessons with a golf professional, social events at Top Golf/mini golf courses, indoor golf simulator sessions, and an annual golf tournament to fundraise for the First Tee, a charity aimed at growing the game in underprivileged communities. We will encourage the participation of faculty, staff, and students to foster opportunities for networking within Loyola Medicine.
