- Evening classes meeting twice per week take the following exam schedule:
- MW evening classes will offer exams at the regular meeting time on the first Monday of the exam period.
- TuTh evening classes will offer exams at the regular meeting time on the first Tuesday of the exam period.
- Courses that deviate from the established course-time grid will offer exams in the time block designated as "Others."
- Courses meeting at 6:00 will offer exams in the time block designated as "Others."
- Undergraduate business course (UBUS) exams are offered as indicated on the exam schedule.
Note: Loyola’s policy regarding the scheduling of exams is that exams are not to be given during the last week of instruction. Final exams are to be given only during the designated times within the exam period (see below).
Exams, final or periodic, given during the final week of instruction interfere with a student’s ability to meet their obligations to their other classes. A student encountering a class in which the instructor intends to offer an exam during the final week of classes is encouraged to notify their dean’s office.
Fall 2014 Retains the traditional 8 day schedule | Spring 2015 Begins the new 6 day Schedule
The decision to make the change to the exam schedule was an academic administration decision. The Office of the Provost consulted with the Council of Deans, who having the responsibility for the curriculum of the schools, are also responsible for the scheduling of final exams. Starting with the spring 2015 semester, the University is moving to a six-day final exam schedule, down from the current eight-day schedule. The new schedule has been researched extensively by the Office of Registration and Records. The new schedule features a number of benefits for students. It maintains the Wednesday study day, it allows grades to be processed and posted more quickly, and it allows students to begin their breaks and summer employment sooner.
The previous eight-day schedule was created predominantly because of the existence of the common course exams that were given on the Tuesday following the first week of finals. Additionally, there were only thee exams scheduled in the second week. The University's analysis indicated that we could move these examinations into the first week and not negatively impact the exam schedule. Having moved away from these, and the common course exams, the eight-day schedule is no longer necessary.
