Following is a list of software applications available to students at Loyola University Chicago. Some are on the Loyola Computer Network and are accessible at any Loyola computer center. Others are available only in the LLRC, Crown Center 208, Lake Shore Campus.

All Languages

• Microsoft Word for Mac - LLRC, Macintosh. Word processor that provides spelling, grammar check, and visual keyboard. It functions for the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish. These features can be accessed via the pull-down menu near the upper right-hand corner of the screen (labeled with a flag icon).
• Microsoft Word XP - On the LUC Network under Loyola Software, Common Desktop Applications. Word processor that allows typing and checking spelling in a variety of foreign languages. Computers in the LLRC are set up to type in any of the languages taught by the Modern Languages and Literatures Department. You can select a language from the Language Bar, found near the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
• On-Screen Keyboard - On any PC. From the Start Menu, go to Programs, Accessories, Accessibility and select On-Screen Keyboard. Virtual keyboard that displays the key layout for any given language and allows inputting specific characters using the mouse.
• World Languages (101 Languages of the World) - LLRC, CD-ROM, Macintosh only. Beginning level lessons for dozens of languages, including all languages taught by the department and many others, such as Portugese, Swahili, and Tagolog. Ideal for those with travel plans!

Arabic

• Alif Baa with DVDs (Gerogetown Universtiy Press.) - LLRC, DVDs, PC. Accompany Alif Baa textbook. Introduction to Arabic Letters and Sounds.
• Al-Kitaab with DVDs (Gerogetown University Press.)- LLRC, DVDs, PC. Accompany Al-Kittabb textbook for beginning Arabic.
• Transparent Language - LLRC, CD-ROM, PC. Focus is on reading practice using assorted texts ("Titles"). Users can click on any word and get a translation, grammatical info., and hear the word pronounced. Activities include games to practice vocabulary and self-recording to practice pronunciation. All levels.

Chinese

• Integrated Chinese Multimedia Companion - LLRC, CD-ROM, Macintosh or PC. Accompanies Integrated Chinese textbook (for introductory Chinese). A set of multimedia exercises in reading, listening, speaking, and writing.
• Instant Immersion Mandarin - LLRC, CD-ROM, PC.  A set of multimedia exercises in reading, listening, speaking and writing.
• Transparent Language - LLRC, CD-ROM, Macintosh, or PC. Focus is on reading practice using assorted texts ("Titles"). Users can click on any word and get a translation, grammatical info., and hear the word pronounced. Activities include games to practice vocabulary and self-recording to practice pronunciation. French

• French Deluxe/ Talk To Me - LLRC, CD-ROM, PC only, recommended for FREN 101-104. An immersion course with over 300 hours of progressive instruction teaching vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.
• Elementary French Exercises (ELFE) - Now here, online, nearly 800 interactive comprehensive grammar exercises for all aspects of French grammar, organized by grammatical topic.
• Système D - On the LUC network, click on the "Start" button, click on Loyola Software, then go over to Academic Applications, choose Language Applications and click on Système D. Word processor add-on developed for Spanish students. Provides dictionary, vocabulary assistance, spell check and grammar information. Recommended for students in FREN 102-104.
• Transparent Language - LLRC, CD-ROM, Macintosh, or PC. Focus is on reading practice using assorted texts ("Titles"). Users can click on any word and get a translation, grammatical info., and hear the word pronounced. Activities include games to practice vocabulary and self-recording to practice pronunciation. • Le Petit Robert - LLRC, CD-ROM, Macintosh or PC. Comprehensive French dictionary with 60,000 words.
