  • Emily Miller is working at Loyola with Dr. Jeffery Doering on the Human Genome Project, specifically determining the genetic organization of a portion of chromosome 21 that may be responsible for Down syndrome.
  • Eric Webb is working at Loyola with Dr. Kim Williamson to develop a vaccine for malaria using specific proteins from the parasite that causes the disease.
  • Kelly Loster is doing an internship at the Illinois State Police Forensic Science Center in Chicago.
  • Jason Ephraim is doing an internship with the Curator of Mammals at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.

Biology

  • Dierdre Hon is teaching Biology as a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Micronesia.
  • Helen Beris is working in Research and Development of genetic testing kits for Vysis, Inc., a division of Abbott.
  • Kevin Zidonis is working in the field for the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

Theatre

  • Joshua Campbell, '03 Honors, Magna Cum Laude, is cast in the Las Vegas production of "Mamma Mia" in the role of Sky. His first performance will be January 31, 2005 with a one year contract. The Las Vegas production will be performed at the Mandalay Bay Theatre, Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • Jeny Wasilewski '03, is playing a multitude of animal characters, including a bird, a mouse, a squirrel, a frog and a mole in "A Year with Frog and Toad" at the Illinois Theatre Center located downtown Park Forest, IL.
  • Jennifer Morrison is cast on the new Fox Television show, "House" as Dr. Allison Cameron. Check out the show's website: www.fox.com/house. House's cast includes neurologist Dr. Eric Forman (Omar Epps), Dr. Robert Chase (Jesse Spencer), Dr. James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard), an oncology specialist with whom they consult on a regular basis. The show airs on Tuesday at 8:00 pm.

Internships and Career Preparation

Loyola makes sure students have the best possible preparation for entering the workforce through programs designed to boost relevant work experience and job-hunting skills.

Our internship program, operated through Loyola's Career Center and the Business Career Center (business students only), matches students with paid and unpaid for-credit internships, to give them hands-on experience in their chosen fields. Internship opportunities are available in an online database. The Career Center's counselors are available to students from the start to the end of their Loyola years, helping them choose majors, look into various fields, build resumes, consider graduate or professional school, and begin the process of interviewing.

The Business Career Center

  • Helps School of Business Administration students find internships and jobs, learn job search and interviewing skills, and get coaching for informed and satisfying career decisions.
  • Works with Chicago companies to meet their recruiting needs.
  • Enables full-time junior and senior undergraduates to earn academic credit for an internship, while also giving them on-the-job experience.

Business Success Stories

  • Some interns get paid in addition to/instead of receiving college credit. In 2004, paid interns earned between $8 and $22 per hour.
  • Loyola's business students succeed in finding a job in today's competitive marketplace. In 2004, more than half of all students had a job prior to or shortly after graduation.
  • Starting salaries for students with a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A) ranged from $27,000 to $53,000, with an average starting salary of $37,903.
