Father General urges Jesuit leaders to lead the way

IN APRIL 2024, Loyola hosted Father Arturo Sosa, S.J., Superior General of the Society of Jesus, who traveled from Rome for a series of campus talks.

Father Sosa is the leader of the Jesuits, the largest religious order of priests and brothers in the Catholic Church, and he chose Loyola to convene leaders from across the Midwest, which included meeting with a dozen directors of Jesuit works — educational institutions, nonprofits, and direct service agencies.

The Father General asked directors of works to describe how they their work aligns with the Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) of the Society of Jesus: To show the way to God through the Spiritual Exercises and discernment; To walk with the poor, the outcasts of the world, those whose dignity has been violated, in a mission of reconciliation and justice; To accompany young people in the creation of a hope-filled future; To collaborate in the care of our Common Home.
