Good News

Curated by Betsy Odom and Rafael E. Vera
Sep – Oct 2018

Opening reception:  Thursday, September 6, 5-7 pm

Good news is hard to come by.  Artists today have a growing responsibility to respond critically to our political climate, our social inequalities, or our moral shortcomings.  Unfortunately, bad news is all around us.  In this moment, is there room for work that uplifts? Can positivity and authenticity offer a salve for our current condition?   What is the role of work that finds spiritual meaning in color and form or seeks the sublime through the act of making? Is there room for fun in today’s art discourse? Visual artists Alberto Aguilar, Mika Horibuchi, Benjamin Larose, Kate McQuillen, Mika Horibuchi and Sonja Thomsen are not afraid of employing optimism as a means of connecting to the range of experiences that art can afford us.  Through photography, sculpture, installation, painting and performance, this exhibition offers moments of reflection, refuge, and joy. Have you heard the good news?
