CIDI Lab

Welcome to the Comparing International and Domestic Institutions Lab

The lab is dedicated to producing empirically robust research that contributes to significant theoretical discussions. Our team of faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students engage in a range of projects, from developing datasets with information on international organizations (IOs) such as the UN, EU, World Bank, or Word Health Organization, completing archival work from such organizations, analyzing data, presenting conference papers, pursuing funding opportunities, and publishing articles and books.

Our work is premised on the understanding that international relations (IR) and especially the study of international organizations (IOs), can build on existing theories, arguments, and models from domestic politics and institutions. Conversely, the fields of Comparative Politics, American Politics, and Political Theory can learn from the study of international organization. Dr. Alexandru Grigorescu, Professor in Loyola’s Department of Political Science and Director of the Center for Research on International Affairs (and of the CIDID Lab) has amassed a long experience in such research over the past two decades, publishing four books and a dozen articles comparing developments in international institutions to domestic ones (see cv here).
