Cayuse Resources

Human Ethics (IRB)

Important Considerations:

  • Studies approved in the portal research channel system that remained active during the transition to Cayuse require a Legacy submission in the new Cayuse system.

Importantly, Legacy submissions are distinct from follow-on submissions (e.g., Modifications, Renewals, etc.), which require a separate action/submission in the Cayuse system and:

      • Require the investigator to transfer study data from the (accessible) legacy system (i.e., research channel) application to the new Cayuse application
      • Are automatically recognized with the Approval that was granted prior to the systems transition
      • Take approximately 10 minutes
      • Must be created and submitted prior to creating and submitting a separate and distinct follow-on submission (e.g., Modification, Renewal, etc.)
      • You do not need to complete a Sponsored Project’s (SP) module for Legacy data. Legacy data from the routing form has already been transferred into SP for your legacy project.
  • Closures for studies initially approved in the research channel system require a significantly abbreviated (single question) version of a Legacy submission be completed before the separate Closure submission can be created
  • To add investigators or research staff (e.g., Faculty, Residents, Fellows, students, research coordinators etc.) to any Cayuse study, It is vital that the primary email address used in CITI’s website is an LUC email address so CITI training records will transfer into the Cayuse system.

Cayuse Initial Projects Submissions: If you are starting an initial new project submission in Cayuse, the tutorials are below. Keep in mind it is important that you start by completing the Cayuse sponsored projects module FIRST, before beginning the Human Ethics (HE) module.

    • When you begin a Sponsored Projects module you will be given an SP# for that project. You need to copy this SP# and enter it into the Human Ethics module where required.
    • When you complete the HE module you will receive a separate HE# for the same project in SP, so you want to keep track of both the SP# and the HE# for the same project.
