Ryan Guirlinger has been the Ukraine Political Unit Chief in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Office of Eastern European Affairs (EUR/EE) since August 2022. His most recent previous assignment was as the Saudi Arabia Senior Desk Officer in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs (NEA/ARP). He previously served as deputy economic counselor at U.S. Embassy Rabat, Morocco; economic officer at U.S. Embassy Algiers, Algeria; consular officer at U.S. Consulate General Istanbul, Turkey; and consular and economic officer at U.S. Embassy Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He joined the Foreign Service in September 2008, and holds two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Maryland-College Park and a master’s degree from Syracuse University. Ryan speaks Arabic, French, Spanish, and Turkish. He grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, and is married with two children.
