Research Interests

Research Focus: Ocular Pharmacology, Clinical Trials, Aging and Vision, Veterans Health

Summary of Research Interests
Dr. Gaynes' research focuses on ocular pharmacology, aging-related ocular disease, and clinical outcomes in veteran populations. He is actively involved in clinical research aimed at improving pharmacotherapeutic interventions for ocular conditions such as glaucoma, dry eye disease, and infectious keratitis. His interests also include optimizing interdisciplinary care models between optometry, pharmacy, and ophthalmology to enhance treatment adherence and health outcomes in older adults. Through his dual expertise in optometry and pharmacology, he investigates drug delivery systems and the impact of systemic medications on ocular health. Dr. Gaynes contributes to the field through journal peer review and editorial work and is currently an associate editor for BMC Ophthalmology.
