A Message from Dean Alexandre

Dear Alumni:

During this season of gratitude, I want to thank you for your support of our law school and for all you do for our students. As we near the end of the calendar year, I am happy to share some highlights from 2025.

The School of Law continues to be recognized as a national leader in legal education. In addition to the high rankings by U.S. News & World Report shared earlier this year, our LLM programs for international lawyers received an A+ on International Jurist’s honor roll, and National Jurist gave high marks to Family Law (A+) and Business Law (A). National Jurist also recognized our excellence in Tax Law (B+) and Public Service (#25).

We continue to attract a talented pool of students, registering a 30% increase in application volume to the law school this past year, and applications continue to increase. This fall, we welcomed 35 more 1Ls than last year—and these students make up an incredibly talented first-year class. The median LSAT is 161, and the median GPA is 3.7—both the highest in 5 years. We had a 28% admit rate, the lowest since 2007. Across the law school, in keeping with the Jesuit Catholic promise, the School of Law’s retention rate for this past year is 99%.

Our new alumni are doing well across the board. The School of Law remains among the top three Chicago law schools for bar passage. Our 2024 graduates recently recorded a 93.7% job placement rate, the highest placement rate in the law school’s records, landing jobs across all sectors of the law field. Our career services team remains on track to meet or surpass these outcomes.

The law school is dedicated to providing financial support to students interested in public sector careers, annually funding about 50 students to receive training in nonprofit, governmental, and other public sector positions. Faculty and staff from all corners of the law school work with students to help them further their goals and prepare for their careers of choice.

The School of Law continues to raise funds for the benefit of students, this past year garnering $12.2 million, which quadruples the results of prior years. This effort includes the anonymous $6 million gift to support Loyola’s Holistic Immigration Hub pilot, which will prepare students and professionals across disciplines to meet the multifaceted challenges faced by migrant families across the globe; the initiative begins its second year in January. We also celebrate the recent gift from Curt Rodin (JD ’75) and his wife, Linda Rodin, to establish the Curt and Linda Rodin Associate Dean of Clinical Education position, which reinforces our commitment to hands-on legal training and social justice.

Our alumni across the board continue to give generously to support our students and our law school. For example, this year, 104 reunion-year alumni gave more than $626,000, surpassing our goal of 100 donors and resulting in a 30% increase in reunion donors over 2024. Because we surpassed our goal of 100 reunion-year donors, we unlocked $20,000 in challenge gifts from Jinhee Wilde (JD ’85) and Ted Helwig (JD ’80). Thank you to everyone who helped make these gifts possible.

As we near the end of the year, please consider making a gift to support our work. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful impact on our current and future School of Law students.

Thank you for your continued dedication to our mission and for embracing the Ignatian principles of magis (excellence), cura apostolica (care for the community), and cura personalis (care for the whole person) that serve as foundations for our work together and are aligned with our strategic plan.

I am grateful to each of you for your enthusiastic and tireless dedication to Loyola Law. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

Sincerely,
Michèle Alexandre
