How are you involved in the local community as a Loyola student?
I am a current Urban Agriculture Team Leader specializing in hydroponics and teaching interns. I was also an intern over the summer growing fresh produce for St. Thomas of Canterbury food pantry and soup kitchen, on-site at the church. I would also volunteer at the food pantry distributing groceries a few times a week.
What is one of your favorite stories from your community engagement experiences?
The excitement people had at the food pantry when I harvested produce was rewarding. I was so glad to provide fresh, quality produce to people in need. Everyone was a fan of the Green Zebra tomatoes I grew. My garden was a success not only because it was productive but because the people enjoyed and appreciated it so much. I was very happy to serve my community in this way.
