Chief Diversity Officer, City of Chicago

Marquis Miller is the City of Chicago’s first Chief Diversity Officer. He works with Candace Moore, Chief Equity Officer, in the Office of Equity and Racial Justice (OERJ) to support and undergird the City’s strategic human capital activities, diverse vendor initiatives, the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, the Chicago Commission on Human Relations and the work of the OERJ in policy and systems development. 

Prior to joining the City, Marquis was the Vice President, Field Operations for the National Minority Supplier Development Council, one of the nation’s leading corporate membership organizations, providing increased procurement and business opportunities for minority business enterprises of all sizes.  With experience in a variety of markets throughout Chicagoland, the Midwest and the U.S., Marquis leverages his skill set and knowledge by partnering and collaboratively working with The Office of the Mayor and City Council, City departments, and bargaining units.  He brings to the City more than twenty-five years of relationship development experience in multiple industries, most recently as managing principal of The Business Mosaic LLC, a consulting practice focused on organizational management in the business services and mission-based sectors and relationship development through growth and change using data analytics. 

Prior to joining the City, he held vice president and business leadership roles at the National Minority Supplier Development Council; S.USA Life, a subsidiary of SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc.; Chicago State University and the CSU Foundation; the Chicago Urban League; the United Negro College Fund, and; The Ohio State University.  A thought leader in the fields of organizational leadership, diversity and durability, Marquis is a board member or advisor to several external organizations, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago; Reading Between The Lines; Uhlich Children’s Advantage Network and; Trinity United Church of Christ.
