Water Resources
Loyola is located along the shores of a national treasure, Lake Michigan. And the University recognizes that, with such close proximity, comes the potential to undervalue the Lake's gifts—fresh drinking water, recreational amenities and more.
Therefore, Loyola takes a stand on water conservation and fair access to drinking water. Related initiatives include the following.
Water Bounty
The Water Bounty program encourages those on campus to report any water leaks to Facilities in return for a reward--a free sustainability kit. Learn how to participate.
Bottled Water Ban
In an effort to address the privatization of water exemplified by the bottled water industry while also reducing plastic waste, the Student Environmental Alliance partnered with Loyola’s student government to ban the sale of plastic water bottles on campus. The decision was made in 2012, and by the end of 2013, all disposable water bottles were phased out of campus vending, dining, and catering services.
