Getting to and around Loyola can be sustainable, affordable, and convenient. With campuses connected to Chicago’s extensive public transportation network, Loyola encourages students, faculty, and staff to choose lower-carbon ways to travel whenever possible—from taking transit and biking to carpooling and using shared transportation options.
Public Transportation
Loyola’s Chicago campuses are well connected by CTA trains and buses, making public transit one of the easiest ways to get to campus without a car.
Eligible students receive a CTA U-Pass, providing unlimited rides on CTA buses and trains during the academic term. Faculty and staff can also take advantage of pre-tax transit benefits to reduce the cost of commuting by public transportation.

Biking
Biking is an affordable, healthy, and low-carbon way to get around Chicago. Loyola supports cyclists with bike parking and other infrastructure across its campuses, along with programs and resources designed to make biking to campus easier.
Throughout the year, Loyola also offers opportunities to connect with local biking resources, learn about bike safety and maintenance, and register your bike.
Getting Between Campuses
Loyola provides transportation options that make it easier to travel between campuses without driving individually. The intercampus shuttle connects the Lake Shore and Water Tower campuses, offering students, faculty, and staff a convenient alternative to driving between Loyola’s two primary Chicago campuses.
Even the fuel has a Loyola connection: our shuttles run on biodiesel produced right here on campus. Made from used cooking oil collected from Loyola’s dining operations, the fuel transforms a waste product into a renewable transportation resource while providing hands-on learning opportunities for students.
Driving Smarter
Public transportation and biking may not work for every commute. When driving is necessary, Loyola offers resources that can help reduce the impact of traveling to campus.
Carpooling and other shared transportation options can reduce the number of vehicles traveling to campus, while electric vehicle charging stations support members of the Loyola community who have made the transition to electric vehicles.
