Wolf and Kettle Day

Though it may look a bit different this year, Loyola will celebrate Wolf + Kettle Day on March 25th, 2021. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the very first Wolf + Kettle Day, and we’re hoping you’ll celebrate this special day with us!

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

Students

In traditional Wolf + Kettle Day fashion, all we’re asking is for you to say thanks. Tell our donors why you’re thankful by writing them a quick message. The form can be found here!

Alumni

If you haven’t already, join thousands of other Loyola alumni and friends by becoming a Loyola donor. And what better time to donate then right during our Rambler Give Day celebration.

ORIGINS

Wolf + Kettle Day originated as a symbolic day representing the point in the academic year when tuition runs out and support from our generous donors begins. While your tuition covers a large part of what it takes to educate a single student for a year, it doesn’t cover all of it. The difference is made up thanks to the support of thousands of Loyola donors each year. Not only do these donors make up the tuition gap, but they also provide thousands of dollars given as scholarships and grants each year. Nintey-nine percent of all Loyola student receive some kind of need-based financial assistance. A Loyola education truly would not be possible without our donors!

TRADITION

Our tradition of giving dates back many centuries to the Basque country of Spain. Legend has it that the Loyola family was so generous that after feeding family and soldiers, they had enough to feed the animals. This act of generosity is represented by the wolves and kettle depicted on Loyola’s shield, which you see every day. This same spirit of generosity is still present today through the donors of the University.
