Class Cancellation Information

January 28, 2019

Dear Loyola Community,

Due to severe and life-threatening weather conditions, classes have been canceled at the Lake Shore, Water Tower, and Health Sciences campuses starting at 5 p.m. tomorrow, January 29, continuing through noon on Thursday, January 31. As we continue to monitor the conditions, please visit LUC.edu and check your Loyola e-mail for any additional updates.

Because of the subzero temperatures and dangerous wind chill factors, only essential personnel are asked to come to campus, including those in Campus Safety, Facilities, Residence Life, the Wellness Center, and Student Development. Those staff members will be granted the opportunity to take a day off with pay within 45 days of the closure. Managers will need to work with HR to coordinate pay for these employees.

All other faculty, staff, and students should stay home or in their residence halls until the severe weather subsides. Staff who are not requested to report to campus should remain home and will be granted paid time off without being required to use any accrued vacation or personal days.

The residence halls and Lake Shore Campus dining halls will remain open for those on campus. The Damen Student Complex including the main parking garage, Damen Student Center, Halas Recreation Center, Gentile Arena, and Norville Center for Intercollegiate Athletics will also remain open with regular hours of operation. All other buildings and facilities (including libraries) will be closed. Additionally, the men's basketball game against the University of Northern Iowa on Wednesday at 6 p.m. will take place as planned.

The Intercampus Shuttle will not run after 5 p.m. on Tuesday and will resume at noon on Thursday, January 31. Please contact Campus Safety at 773.508.SAFE if you need emergency transportation.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Margaret Faut Callahan, CRNA, PhD, FNAP, FAAN
