Welcome to the Halas Recreation Center!

Mission Statement

The Loyola University Chicago Campus Recreation Department strives to provide recreational and social experiences that build community and promote values-based action while preparing people to live healthy and balanced lives.

Below is information on our facility in normal operations.

Halas Recreation Center offers a variety of treadmills, elliptical trainers, upright bikes, recumbent bike, and stair climbers. Halas also features both free weights and selectorized equipment.

The Halas Pool is an 8 lane, 25 yard pool that reaches 7 feet deep and allows for both lap swim and space for free swim. Kickboards, pull-buoys, and aqua jogging belts are provided for members’ use. The Halas Pool can be accessed through the locker rooms or the hallway by the Family Changing Room.

Upstairs, a multipurpose gym includes three courts that can be used for volleyball, basketball, badminton, and indoor soccer. Around the multipurpose court is a 1/11 mile track used for running and walking.

Halas offers a full Group Fitness Schedule including a variety of cardio, toning, kickboxing, yoga, and Pilates classes. We also offer several Spin classes in our Spin Studio. All Group Fitness classes are free to all full time students and Halas Members.

Halas Recreation Center offers two state of the art locker rooms complete with showers, lockers, and a dry sauna. Locker and Towel Service is also available. The locker rooms lead directly into the pool for quick and private access.

Campus Recreation reserves the right to deny admittance to any user of the facility based on conduct or non-adherence to Campus Recreation Policies.

As a university building, the Halas Recreation Center is occasionally used for university events, such as graduation ceremonies. These events may result in facility closures, which are announced as far in advance as possible. The Department of Campus Recreation reserves the right to change hours, schedules, policies, and procedures at any time, should it be deemed in the interest of its users or of the university to do so.
