Frequently asked questions
In this section, we provide answers to some frequently asked questions about using the Brightspace system. For questions about the transition from Sakai to Brightspace, please review the FAQ on LUC's Brightspace homepage.
Can I change the tools (or the order of the tools) on the navbar in my course?
At this time, changing the navbar in courses - by rearranging tools or removing/adding tools - is not possible. While the university transitions from Sakai to Brightspace, keeping the student experience in Brightspace as consistent as possible remains a priority.
Can I create a custom grading scheme?
While creating custom grading schemes is an option in Brightspace, implementation of this feature will only be possible after an internal course architecture (i.e., classifying courses by schools) is built in Brightspace and tied to LOCUS. The implementation team is currently working on this. Note that even when the architecture is complete, Deans may have discretion to limit grading schemes for schools or units.
Can I use the "Manage Files" tool in Brightspace like I used "Resources" in Sakai?
In Sakai, students were able to access the Resources tool and view any course files in it if instructors set permissions for student access. In Brightspace, students do not have any access to the Manage Files tool. While Manage Files can be used to store and organize files for use in the course, instructors must embed or attach files in the modules and lessons they build for students to view and use those files.
