Beyond the Cohort: Jenny Croitoru

Since participating in the Science Master Teacher Leadership Cohort, Jenny Croitoru has found new pathways for connection—not only with students, but with a broader professional learning community.
“This cohort has opened the door for better communication with my students. I’ve learned how to meet them where they are and work collaboratively without creating the kind of pressure that group work can sometimes bring.”
With the support of the cohort, she also tapped into a powerful network of peers who are ready to share strategies, insight, or provide suggestions.
“The cohort is a great resource. When I need ideas, all I have to do is reach out.”
What’s one science-related project, unit, or initiative you’re excited about right now?
“I’m diving back into fully teaching science again, and I’m really excited about helping students write more purposefully using the CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) framework. I want to make it more fun and engaging so it complements our writing program while enriching science learning.”
How have you continued to grow as a teacher leader since the cohort?
“I’ve continued to grow by attending several types of professional development programs. It’s helped me stay energized and informed.”
One of the highlights of her recent work has been a powerful unit on climate change, where students engaged in hands-on learning that brought science to life.
“I’m very proud of my students who explored climate change in depth and how it affects us and other living things. Through partnerships with the Nature Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry, they got to engage in real scientific experimentation—collecting data, taking measurements, and using scientific tools firsthand.”
What’s one piece of advice you’d offer to current or future cohort members?
“Be open-minded. Learn. And have fun sharing your expertise.”
