About Steppingblocks at Loyola
The Enrollment Systems, Research, and Reporting (ESRR) department introduced Steppingblocks to Loyola University Chicago in 2023 to enhance data-driven insights into student outcomes and career pathways. ESRR oversees the implementation and administration of Steppingblocks in partnership with the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA).
Steppingblocks provides access to national workforce analytics, including graduate career trajectories, salary trends, and educational pathways. These insights help departments make informed decisions about program development, alumni engagement, and student success. Departments or staff members who wish to use Steppingblocks may request access by completing the form linked below.
Accessing Steppingblocks
To request access to Steppingblocks, please complete the following form: https://gpem.luc.edu/register/SteppingBlocks
Supervisor approval is required before access can be granted. This requirement does not apply to members of University Leadership (President, Provost, Senior Vice President, Vice President, etc.).
Any data derived from Steppingblocks is for internal use only except as stated below:
Steppingblocks Exporting Data Policy:
- Data may only be exported if it is needed for an appropriate and authorized LUC business need.
- Exported data should only be stored on a secured LUC ITS encrypted network resource. Resources include LUC network drives and LUC Sharepoint/One Drive locations.
- Data should only be stored on network resources with security settings to limit data access to appropriate LUC stakeholders who have a business need to see Steppingblocks data.
- Data should not be emailed as an attachment. Should data need to be shared with Loyola colleagues and stakeholders via email, individuals should use either Loyola Secure Transfer to send files or, for internal LUC stakeholders, links to LUC Sharepoint/One Drive files may be embedded in emails.
- When downloaded data is shared with stakeholders, the individual who downloaded and shared the data should document it according to the following:
- Short Description of the Data Downloaded
- Description, as needed, of the data Analysis or data presentation
- Description of how the data was prepared to share
- For instance, provide the date the data was downloaded, describe all filters used, and the purpose for downloading the data.
- If the Steppingblocks data was combined with other data sources, identify where the other data was sourced, when, a description of the data, and the relationship with the Steppingblocks data.
- Identify the file formats of all data
- Identify the audience with whom the data is being shared
- Explain the use of the data and the purpose of the data sharing
- Note that any public sharing of data needs to be approved by the Provost or their designee prior to being shared publicly.
