Mission Statement

Loyola University Chicago Preschool

A warm, nurturing and safe community of learners.

The mission of Loyola University Chicago Preschool is to cultivate genuine, joyous, and trusting relationships so that children can become enthusiastic lifelong learners as well as kind, thoughtful people. We use a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum to build on children’s natural curiosity and enthusiasm for learning in order to provide an engaging, fun-filled program that meets the needs of the whole child.  Quite simply, we want children to love coming to preschool.

Anti-Bias/Anti-Racist Statement of Commitment

We value and respect the needs and strengths of all children and are dedicated to celebrating the individual child while encouraging participation in a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful community.

Our program has always been strongly committed to creating an anti-bias and anti-racist community. Through a developmentally appropriate lens, we work with children to increase awareness of biases and to normalize conversations about issues of identity, fairness, and social justice with a focus on anti-racist and anti-sexist work.  We continuously work to equip children with the foundational skills to recognize prejudice and discrimination and to stand up for others as well as for themselves.

We are specific and deliberate in our presentation of these issues to children. We explicitly talk about race, gender and class and we work to represent and value both commonalities and differences among children, adults and families through our units of learning and the materials in the classroom environment. Our efforts are on-going, intentional and reflective.
