William Bergman

Clinical Instructor of Finance


Bill Bergman is a Clinical Instructor for the Quinlan School of Business. He has four decades of financial market experience in private and public sector roles, including equity analysis, syndication of initial public offerings, economic research, financial market regulatory policy analysis, and standard-setting for government financial reporting. Bill has a track record of recognizing investment opportunities and warning of risks facing investors as well as financial markets generally. Bill maintains a website called GovMoneyNews that includes a daily newsletter and other resources dedicated to helping students and others understand government finance.

Bill is a passionate teacher who cares about inspiring students to tackle challenging financial management concepts, and to understand them in their public policy and broader social welfare context. His teaching career includes six years as a sailing instructor, where two of his students ended up winning, in successive years, the Sunfish World Championship. Bill has a lecture on lessons from sailboat racing for financial management, which include "Sail Your Own Race," and "Don't Follow The Crowd."
