Jim Collins

TV Studio Manager; Rambler Productions Manager

Bio

Jim M. Collins II is the TV Studio Manager and the manager of the School of Communication's student-staffed video and media services. Collins was previously the video production coordinator in SOC. He joined the Department of Communication in 1988 as a production assistant and was promoted to his current position in 1991.

As video production coordinator in SOC's Owl Lab, Collins worked with students and faculty on video and audio projects, while also coordinating and managing the school's audio and video equipment. At the start of each semester, he provided students in production courses with an orientation on SOC's equipment and checkout procedures. He is also part of the production team for Loyola News Chicago in the convergence studio.

"The best part about working here is working with the students," he said.

While overseeing the audio and video equipment for the department’s production courses, Collins continues to pursue his own interest in filmmaking, working on several independent projects.

In 1991, he directed and edited a documentary short for the Chicago Association of Retarded Citizens, which earned him the Helen Cody Baker Award for Social Service Communicators.

Collins and co-producer David Schmidt shot Invocation: Doppelganger in 1998 and the sequel Invocation: End Game in 1999. Their other works include a 90-minute feature, Sword of Hearts, and two horror films, Grave Invitation and The Lovecraft Syndrome, released in 2005. The co-producers are currently working on their next feature film, House of Black Wings.
