Promoting health equity and belonging

Stritch works in partnership with local and global communities to address persistent health inequities. We work to reduce the disparity between the diversity of our campus communities, patient population(s), and, ultimately, the U.S. physician workforce. We strive to promote more equitable access to the field of medicine and related professions by managing several “pathway programs" for persons from underrepresented backgrounds. In addition, we work to ensure all of our students have resources and support to be successful at Stritch.

Pathway Programs

HPREP (Health Professionals Recruitment and Exposure Program)

The Health Professionals Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP) seeks to help alleviate disparities in healthcare by encouraging high school students from underrepresented groups and/or from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue healthcare careers. We provice mentorship and guidence to prepare students for college and beyond. Proviso United with Loyola Students for Educational Enrichment (PULSE)

PULSE is a grassroots program based in local partnerships with teachers, administrators, and commnity leaders. This program offers high school students interested in a medical career a coser look at educational opportunities in science, with a focus on clinical skills and opertunities for mentorship.

ASPIRE (Academic Summer Program Integrating Resources for Excellence)

ASPIRE is an intensive program held in June that prepares pre-med students for the medical school application process and helps strengthen applications. We coordinate with community leaders and organize service opertunities to expose students to the impact of health disparities, and introduce them to the Maywood community. Pre-Matriculation

Stritch Immersion Program

This 16-day program is designed to help prepare incoming students for academic success in medical school. Through virtual and in-person interactive (group and private) sessions SIP provides resources that can support student health and well-being, as well as introduce incoming M1's to medical school peers, leaders, and the surrounding community.

This program is generously supported by the Office of the Dean, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and the Executive Admissions Committee.

Second Look Programming

This weekend-long hybrid (in-person and virtual) program is hosted by the Office of Admissions, Second Look provides admitted students and opportunity to:  

  • EXPLORE the Health Sciences campus
  • ENGAGE with students, faculty, and academic administrators
  • LEARN more about Stritch's curriculum, programs, student groups, and extracurricular activities

The office hosts two opertunities for incomming stuidents to hear from diverse student leaders and connect with faculty.

Second Look Community Forum

This virtual "Open House" invites admitted students to join our faculty and staff, as well as current student leaders to create a space for fellowship and dialougue. In addition to a brief presentation from the ODEI, this forum features an open Q&A with leaders of various student affinity organizations.

ODEI "Housewarming" Dinner

As part of Second Look, the ODEI hosts an in-person evening of food and fellowship for atendees interested in connecting with Stritch students and faculty groups under-represented in medicine.
