Water Tower Campus - Faculty Senators

In 2024, one faculty member from the Water Tower Campus will be elected to University Senate. Below are the candidacy statements for the faculty on the ballot.

Annette Alvarado

Research and Learning Librarian

As a librarian, I bring expertise in information management and research skills to the University Senate. My commitment to neutrality and objectivity ensures that I will stand for diverse perspectives fairly and advocate for inclusive policies within the Senate. I support communication and collaboration, fostering constructive dialogue and consensus-building among stakeholders. My understanding of academic environments and resource management will enable me to effectively address the needs and challenges facing students, faculty, and staff. Overall, my dedication to academic values and my ability to navigate complex issues make me a highly qualified candidate for the University Senate.

Shabnam Azimi

I have a strong sense of responsibility and passion for improving the Loyola University's experience for our students, faculty and staff. I am interested in long-term University affairs like strategic planning and would like to connect with people in other schools across our university.

Eilene Edejer

I had served on the University Senate years ago and had stepped away when the structure changed. I would like to be involved again as the university continues to evolve. I also have a joint appointment with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and am a Faculty Affiliate with the Institute for Racial Justice so I have different vantage points to approach this role.

Patrice  Leverett

While I am new edition to the Loyola faculty, I have experience serving on the University Senate at a previous institution where my platform focused on equitable treatment across diverse faculty and staff. During my tenure in the Senate, I drafted white papers that focused on the potential role of the university in increasing mental health support for the state legislature and advocating for the maintenance of tenure and equitable hiring practices. My experience as a faculty member, with previous leadership positions at the university and national level of my field, and my commitment to equity, would make me an enthusiastic advocate and ally to all.

Eva Mika

I have experience on university wide initiatives that impact faculty(university wide perspective)-for example, the Covid response committee. I also provide oversight for part-time faculty hiring, scheduling, and mentoring. I authored the SCPS NTT proposal policy that was adopted and empowered FT SCPS faculty by facilitating a path to promotion. I am passionate about faculty development -as one example I host faculty fireside chats on topics that faculty choose(e.g. who inspired us to be educators?, the role of discussion boards and engagement, labor based assessment etc. I am also a faculty affiliate with the Institute of Racial Justice and I am excited about the opportunity to promote racial justice in higher education including a critique of traditional research methods.
