Campus Residence Hall Slated for Destruction
Loyola Neighborhood News: Lake Shore Campus - V3, I3
As you may already know, Loyola University Chicago has been planning to demolish the outdated St. Louis Hall, a student dorm which is located on West Loyola Ave. Demolition of the building will begin in late October and is projected to last approximately five weeks.
As with all major construction projects that the University undertakes, there will be a construction mitigation plan to minimize any impact on the neighborhood. Loyola has hired Power Construction to supervise the work, and Heneghan Wrecking Co. will be in charge of the demolition. The Division of Campus and Community Planning is working diligently with our vendors to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
During the demolition process, we will make an effort to reduce dirt and dust by using a controlled water spray on the debris as it comes down. If necessary, a street sweeper will be used to clean up the surrounding area.
In addition, Power Construction and Heneghan Wrecking Co. is instructed to use the existing parking spaces behind St. Louis Hall to load and exit any trucks from the demolition site through the alley so as not to negatively affect access to parking or traffic. The work schedule will be from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in accordance with the city’s rules and regulations.
After demolition, the property will be secured by an iron fence with a gate along the sidewalk, about 10 feet of grass, shrubs and parking in the rear.
