Why EMS is a good choice

LUCEMS provides an opportunity for pre-medical and non pre-medical students alike to gain first hand clinical experience right here on the lakeshore campus.  It is an opportunity to give back to the students, faculty, staff and guests of the university while experiencing emergency medicine first hand.

Working with LUCEMS gives you the opportunity to be the first one on the scene of a medical emergency.  EMS providers work in a very dynamic environment which which creates a need for critical thinkers and problem solvers.  EMT's are trained "street medicine" a unique way of treating a person that can not be duplicated in any other setting.

The program is a “service-learning” concept for students and staff at the university.

It is possible for students to obtain job placement at local private ambulance companies within the area.  Several LUCEMS members work in the private field and provide networking opportunities for students to get their foot in the door with these local companies.

There are very few opportunities that combine the volunteer aspect with such a hands on clinical experience.  LUCEMS provides both of these in one program, as well as continuing education opportunities for current responders.
